In August 2004, Charles Graten Damron, Jr., his wife Della, of Stark City, Missouri, attended the DDFA reunion at Cabwaylingo State Forest, West Virginia, accompanied by their daughter, Charla Doerry of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They continued eastward to Northumberland County, Virginia, to explore the area where Lawrence Dameron had originally settled in the mid 1600’s. While doing some research in the Ball Memorial Museum and Library in Heathsville, Virginia, Charles explored the exhibits as Della was consulting some books. He came to Della telling her had found something that she must see. Leading her to another room, he showed her a large wood chest with iron fittings. A label stated that it had originally belonged to “John Dameron.” This would be John Damron, (1757 1843) son of Moses Damron and Aggy Owl. Given by Mr. Webster Ballance, Irvington, VA, Jan. 1993 “18th Century Chest This chest was carried from Northumberland County, VA to Johnson County, IL by John Dameron and his wife Anna Ladd in 1796. It was found in a shed on the property of Annie McLean in southern IL some 15 years ago. Mr. Ballance is great great great grandson of John Dameron and retrieved it and carried to Carbondale, IL, where he was associated with Southern Illinois University. He brought it to Winchester, VA and later gave it to his daughter in Fairfax Co. in January 1993. John Dameron was a private in the army during the Revolutionary War. The chest could be older than 1796.”
